Westwood Works 1903-2003 |
Prizegiving ceremonies took place each year when Engineering Apprentices and Commercial Trainees gained awards for technical and/or academic achievement. A number of Cups and Trophies were competed for, usually presented by a visiting dignitary. Such achievements were recorded on a series of Honours Boards which lined the walls of the entrance to the Apprentice School. (See also - Rewards for Effort).
(The 2nd photo from the left in then first row below shows the 1954 Apprentice intake receiving their Completion of Apprenticeship Certificates. In the front row at the RH side is Trevor Bentham illustrating another consequence of "completing one's time" - the dreaded receipt of a brown envelope marked - "OHMS". This was the time of National Service).
